Superchain
Optimism's vision of a network of interoperable OP Stack chains sharing security and a communication layer.
Superchain — The Superchain is Optimism's vision for a network of interoperable Layer 2 blockchains all built on the OP Stack. Superchain members share a common bridge to Ethereum, standardized communication protocols, and coordinated upgrades. The goal is to create a unified L2 ecosystem where assets and messages move seamlessly between chains.
What Is the Superchain?
The Superchain is a network of OP Stack rollups that opt into shared standards: a universal bridge, common upgrade schedule, and interoperability protocol. Current Superchain members include Optimism Mainnet, Base, Zora, Mode, and Worldchain. Rather than competing L2s fragmenting liquidity, the Superchain aims to unify them into a cohesive multi-chain ecosystem.
Superchain Interoperability
The Superchain's key value proposition is cross-chain interoperability. Users will be able to move assets between Superchain members without traditional bridging delays. Shared sequencing and message passing enable dApps to operate across multiple Superchain networks as if they were one unified chain, reducing the liquidity fragmentation that plagues the current multi-chain landscape.
Superchain Economics
Superchain members contribute a percentage of sequencer revenue to the Optimism Collective, funding public goods and protocol development. This creates a sustainable funding model while giving individual chains the benefits of shared infrastructure and security. The economic alignment incentivizes collaboration over competition.

Common questions about Superchain in cryptocurrency and DeFi.
Partially. Individual Superchain members (Optimism, Base, Zora) are live and operational. Full interoperability — seamless cross-chain messaging and asset transfers — is being developed and rolled out incrementally.
Unlike Cosmos (independent chains with IBC) or Polkadot (parachains), the Superchain specifically targets Ethereum L2s sharing the same stack, bridge, and security model. This tight coupling enables deeper interoperability than cross-ecosystem bridges.
Currently, you interact with individual Superchain members as separate L2s. As interoperability features launch, cross-chain operations will become transparent — you may not even need to know which Superchain member you are using.
